Skip A Snack is a free mobile app that helps you celebrate the snacks you choose not to eat. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

By using Skip A Snack you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Who we are

Skip A Snack is operated by Skip A Snack Ltd, United Kingdom. You can contact us at hello@skipasnack.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to run the app. This includes:

• Email address — collected when you sign in via magic link. Used for authentication and, where you have given explicit consent at sign-up, to send you good news, skip wins and the odd treat. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing greg@skipasnack.ai.
• Food photos — photos you take within the app of snacks you are skipping or treats you are taking. These are stored to display in your skip history and on kudos share cards.
• Skip data — the food name, calorie estimate, and timestamp of each skip you log.
• Kudos data — first names entered by friends giving kudos on your share cards. No account is required from them.
• Usage data — basic analytics such as app opens and feature usage to help us improve the product. No personally identifiable information is included.

We do not collect your name, address, phone number, payment information, location, or any health or medical data.

3. How we use your data

• To provide the core app functionality — logging skips, displaying your history, calculating calorie totals
• To send you magic link sign-in emails
• To display your skip photos on kudos share cards when you choose to share
• To send optional end of day and weekly summary notifications if you enable them
• To send you product updates and skip inspiration — only where you have given explicit consent at sign-up
• To improve the app based on anonymised usage patterns

We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising. Ever.

4. Food photo processing

When you take a photo of a snack, that image is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify the food and estimate its calorie content. The image is processed in real time and is not stored by Anthropic for training purposes under their standard API terms. The image is then stored in our database solely to display in your skip history and on your kudos share cards.

You can delete your account and all associated photos at any time from the app settings.

5. Sharing and kudos

When you share a skip, a unique link is generated containing your food photo, food name, and calories saved. Anyone with that link can view the card and give kudos by entering their first name. Shared links are public by design — do not share snacks that contain personally identifiable information in the photo.

You can disable sharing at any time by not sharing links. Previously shared links will continue to work unless you delete the skip from your history.

6. Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely in a PostgreSQL database hosted in the European Union, using industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.

Access to your data is restricted to essential systems only. No human at Skip A Snack can access your individual food photos or skip history without your explicit permission.

7. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your personal data including email address, skip history, and food photos will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

8. Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK user you have the following rights:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data at any time
• Right to portability — you can request your data in a machine-readable format
• Right to object — you can object to how we process your data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@skipasnack.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Skip A Snack is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Third party services

We use the following third party services to operate the app:

• Anthropic — AI food recognition via Claude API (privacy policy)
• Resend — transactional email delivery (privacy policy)

Each service operates under its own privacy policy. We have chosen services that are GDPR compliant and do not use your data for advertising.

11. Cookies

Skip A Snack uses minimal cookies and local storage solely for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third party tracking cookies.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notification. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
